VLC is more for playing those files considering it “On-The-Fly” in case of emergency, because of how small VLC is (portable).
VLC’s built-in codecs aren’t considered high quality. You might want to look into K-Lite Codec Pack > PotPlayer > SmoothVideo Project configurations.

Since your using the Ubuntu distro, I do have a question regarding Linux in general though. Does Linux fully support Eyefinity setups? Is the drivers open sourced or proprietary?

okay dude, but i am never use VLC media, i am not needed it.

I had Xubuntu 11.10 before I had Ubuntu 12.04 now.
